Jed "Jedi Nice" Forman

Popping

Jed "JeDi NiCe" Forman found his love for dance in high school with a Puerto Rican dance troupe specializing in Bomba, an old dance art originating from the town of Louisa. Continuing to dance with local musical productions, Jed found another passion for dance at Tufts University in 2003 with the Bhangra team, an East-Indian folk dance, which brought him to competitions all over North America. He also joined a hip-hop troupe at his university and soon became one of the group's lead choreographers.

Over the summer of 2004, Jed trained in New York and discovered popping with the legendary Jazzy J. After a summer of classes, battles, and group sessions, Jed returned to Boston and got together with popping legends MegaTron and Shallow to continue his popping education. He then joined a well-known Boston area Hip-Hop company, Static Noyze, diversifying his on and off-stage dance experience.

After graduating from college, Jed moved back to New York with the goal of branching into even more dance styles, training classically in ballet as well as continuing his love of street styles, including house, hip-hop, and even a little b-boying. But all the while Jed has stayed devoted to popping, understanding that while diversity is important, equally is dedication to the long-term development of an art. His talents were later recognized by MSA agency and now is a signed artist, appearing on NBC and MTV. Jed and his popping crew, π, also recently won the New York Dance Delight, a famous Japanese Street Dance Competition which his crew will be flown out to Japan to compete in. Jed continues to work internationally and locally including many battle victories in NYC hoping first and foremost to expand his skill, come what may commercially.

Class Description:

Jed's class focuses on the foundations of popping including essential vocabulary, technique, and various styles within the dance, all with the aim to get you able to practice and grow on your own. The class starts with a stretch and strengthening warm-up that both prepares the muscles needed for class and counteracts the stresses on the body created by popping. Next, Jed breaks down popping techniques including waving, hitting, banging, dime stopping, boogaloo rolls, footwork, etc. showing you how to get the aesthetic of the dance correct while protecting your body. Afterwards, the class applies these techniques to a short routine usually exploring different popping styles e.g. scarecrow, puppet, saccin', boogaloo, bottin', waving, tutting, twist-o-flex, toyman, etc. and implementing the techniques reviewed in class. While the class is meant to be challenging, Jed will tailor each lesson to the level of the students, giving you individualized attention so that you are learning without being overwhelmed. His class is a fun and supportive environment to explore this amazing dance style so come ready to enjoy and learn!
