King’s
versatility and insatiable appetite to uniquely express life through movement
has afforded numerous opportunities to choreograph, teach and perform, traveling
throughout the U.S., Vienna, Costa Rica, Belgium, France, and Tokyo, Japan. In
NYC, King continues to enjoy teaching on faculty at Steps on Broadway, Joffrey’s
Jazz & Contemporary Program and guest faculty at Broadway Dance Center.
Her choreography has been
commissioned for a variety of venues as part of special performances at
Laguardia High School - Concert Hall, Pinkerton Academy Theatre Arts, Palace
Theatre, PMT, Merce Cunningham Dance Studios, Dansstage Dance Festival, The
Auditorio Nacional and Teatro Eugene O'Neil Theaters in Costa Rica.
King has been afforded an
array of performance opportunities: A Chorus Line, Cats Vienna, Fame: The
Musical, Benefits for Broadway Cares; Michael Jackson Sportswear,
industrials, performing work by choreographer Lynne Taylor - Corbett, Boston
Opera’s Aida and Die Fledermaus-choreographers, Sam Kurkjian,
Graciella Daniele and newly written plays directed by Doug Hall. Concert work
with Impulse Dance Company, performing works by Richard Levi, Danny Sloan, Lynn
Simonson, Consuelo, Ed Blee, Miquel Lopez, and IDC’s Artistic Director, Adrienne
Hawkins.
JKing Dance Company, (JKDC), established in 2008 by King
is fresh, creative, passionate, and constantly evolving, captivating their
audiences with a unique blend of dance, daily gestures performed with a emphatic
technical and athletic prowess. JKDC continues to expand their repertory and
within 3+ short years in New York, has been presented at 13 different venues.
Most recently at the new opening for Children’s Museum of Art (CMA), NYC,
performing ‘Safely Put Upon’ which was revised and inspired by the art work of
Christo and Jeanne-Claude.
JKDC’s
upcoming performances for 2012 include TakeRoot/GreenSpace and JKDC’s first
Benefit Concert on
May 11th and 12th, 2012, presenting a full evening of King’s work. JKDC is a
Sponsored Artist of The Field and a 2011 recipient of the grant Building Up
Infrastructure Levels for Dance (BUILD) a program of New York Foundation for the
Arts and a recepient of The Field Artist Residency for Fall 2011.
King has also had the joy of continually
watching her students go on to perform in a variety of venues, such as, Cats,
King & I, West Side Story, Industrials, and plays, as well as teaching
throughout private owned studios and schools. Joyce is happily married to Ray
and the proud mom of Aidan, her 8 year old son.

Description:
King's versatility in her own career path,
lends itself to exploring a multifaceted outlook on dance and bringing together
an eclectic approach in her teaching. Her movement can be subtle and athletic,
the music contemporary to rock. King works to create an environment where
dancers are inspired to embrace their own uniqueness and vibrancy. Classes
focus on strengthening the dancers overall performance by expanding upon
technique, character development, flexibility - physically and emotionally
through combining disciplines of jazz, ballet, modern, acting.
