Joyce King

Jazz Dance

 

 

    Joyce King‘s versatile experience and style has awarded her opportunities to perform, teach and choreograph throughout the U.S., Costa Rica, Belgium, and France. In NYC she continues to enjoy teaching on Faculty at Steps on Broadway and as part of Broadway Dance Centers Guest Jazz Faculty and for DanceWave’s Young Dancers Program. She most recently created her own Workshop “Jolt Dance Convention” that is dedicated to bringing quality dance education to students across the country.
    The Newly formed,
JKing Dance Company was most recently invited to perform as part of PMT Spring Dance Series and Steps on Broadway Faculty Concert.  Her choreography has been seen over a variety of venues as part of Special Performances at Pinkerton Academy Theatre Arts and Palace Theatre, Dansstage Dance Festival, Competitions, The Auditorio Nacional and Teatro Eugene O'Neil Theaters in Costa Rica and explained by audience members as passionate, thought provoking, emotionally moving, physically athletic, and sassy....
    Joyce's most notably performing credits include: Cats, A Chorus Line, and Fame,  Special Events/ Benefits - Broadway Cares.. As a former member of Impulse Dance Company, under Artistic Dir. Adrienne Hawkins, she worked with choreographers such as Fred Benjamin, Lynn Simonson, Miquel Lopez and Richard Levi. She attended Oxford School of Drama, England, Shakespeare Intensive, London; Film/TV with Sally Johnson and extensive studies under renown Acting teacher Charles Kakatsakis in NYC.

     In addition, Joyce’s teaching and choreography has been greatly influenced by them all, including, Michael Owens, Michele Assaf, Suzanne Taylor (former Dir of NHSB), Hartford and Boston Ballet. Her studies with Master Jim Wharton of Wharton Performance in NYC, awarded her Certification for Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) which she has incorporated within her warm-up.

Class Description:

     Joyce's center warm- up focuses on strengthening technique, expanding flexibility by combining disciplines of Jazz, Ballet, Modern, AIS. Across the floor is comprised of turns, jumps, with intent to familiarize dancer to her style. With Joyce's acting knowledge, she encourages the dancers to bring their uniqueness and passion to the combinations while challenging and developing their technique, ultimately bringing their performance to a higher level. Joyce is available to choreograph, teach Master Classes, Privates, and Workshops.
