Ami Mattison Jazz Dance
Ami Mattison was born and raised in Michigan, where she trained in ballet and modern. She moved to NYC years ago to train with the top teachers and choreographers in the field. Moving to New York exposed Ami to what would soon become her passion, jazz and contemporary dance. Ami has been teaching for about five years. She has taught children and teens in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Maryland. Ami has also taught adults at Broadway Dance Center, and as an assistant in Tropea, Italy. She is currently on faculty at Peridance Center. Ami is a dancer in the NY/LA based dance company CollidE, with choreographer Erica Sobol. She is also a dancer, choreographer, and rehearsal director for NY based company SO Dance Collective, choreographer Stacie Owen. Through both companies and has performed in several full evening concert dance performances, at Carnival: The Choreographers Ball, and other festivals in the area. Ami’s choreographic work has been seen in festival and showcases throughout New York city and state, Connecticut, and Maryland. She is building a body of work to eventually launch her own contemporary jazz company.
Teaching Schedule: Section 3.1.1 - Advanced Beginner Jazz Dance - Monday 6:30 - 8:00pm
Performance Workshop: Section 1.3 - Adv. Beg. Jazz Dance Performance Workshop - Sunday 4:00-5:30pm (CLOSED)
Class Description: This class will be jazz based with elements of contemporary and lyrical styles. Pedestrian movements tied with technique and emotion will lead to a very “moving” experience. Students will be encouraged to think, feel, and tell a story through movement. Breaking boundaries, challenging technique, and encouraging a LOVE and PASSION for performing are the goals of this workshop. |
