Brenda Neville

Argentine Tango & Flamenco

 

 

     Brenda R. Neville has toured internationally for over two decades performing, choreographing and teaching Argentine Tango, Flamenco and other ethnic dance forms in over 18 different countries including Argentina, China, Hungary, Japan and Spain.  Initially trained as a ballet dancer, Brenda spent the first part of her career performing with the Milwaukee Ballet, Butler Ballet and Indianapolis Dance Company.  Upon coming to New York, she joined All Nations Dance Company with whom she studied and performed Argentine Tango, Flamenco, Irish and other ethnic dance styles for over 13 years.  She has studied and performed with some of today’s top artists including Soledad Barrio (Noche Flamenco),  Juan Carlos Copes, Magdalena,  Antonio Cervila Jr. (Broadway’s Tango Argentino), and Mariela Franganillo (from Broadway’s Forever Tango) and has performed in numerous musical theatre productions and ethnic dance revues. She is founder and director of Neville Dance Theatre, which performs contemporary and ethnic dance repertory throughout the New York area (www.nevilledance.com) and is currently a faculty dance instructor at The Ailey School and Covenant Ballet Theatre of Brooklyn with whom she is also a principal company dancer.

Section 3.3.1 - Open Argentine Tango - Tuesday 7:00 - 8:00pm

 

Class Description:

Learn the basics of these fun and exciting cultural dances plus segments of Neville Dance Theatre’s repertoire.  Tango classes focus on walking techniques, floor navigation, lead/follow basics, etiquette, ochos and movement fundamentals.  Flamenco classes introduce the standard 12 count rhythm, basic footwork and braceo, marking steps and aspects of the dances Sevillanas and Alegrias.  No partner necessary-beginners encouraged.  For tango - wear comfortable, smooth-soled shoes (no rubber).  For flamenco - flamenco, character or closed toe, hard soled shoes.
