Amanda Spilinga

Contemporary Dance

Born and raised in Italy Amanda’s dance career started at 12 years old.  She started dancing modern jazz and ballet and began to attend different workshops around Italy.  At the only age of 15 she has been noticed by the american choreographer Steve La Chance who built  her professional formation through scholarships and awards.  She started studying with personalities such as Corinne Lanselle, Daniel Tinazzi, Silvio Oddi and won several dance challenges as “Cantadanza” And “Vallee Danza”(IT) as best modern jazz dancer.

At the only age of 17 she has been recognised by IDA ( International Dance Association) as professional modern jazz teacher, a journey that signed the start of her career as one of the youngest professional  teachers and choreographers in Italy.

Thanks to her versatility she has been able to work for several TV shows and theatres and to teach workshops for all levels.

Her professional abilities has been noticed and judged by several important characters of the dance scene (Susanna Beltrami, Gus Bembery) by  winning different choreography competitions (“Concorso Purosangue etc)”where she has been able to stand out the talent of dancers of all ages on stage and by training kids that nowadays are dancing for outstanding companies ( LaScala and PierLombardo Academy).

At the age of 20 she moved to New York City in order to complete her professional carrier and started dancing with names as Sheila Barker, Michelle Barber, Michele Oliva, Derek Mitchell, Shaik and many others.

Amanda’s class is a fusion of  modern jazz/ contemporary technique  and the ability for each dancer to liberally find their own personality throught movement and music.

Class Description:

Amanda’s class is a fusion of contemporary, jazz and ballet directly from Europe, with american influences.  The class starts with a general warm up focused on releasing the body followed by the study of technique with plies, tandues and the research of the lines of the body.

Floor work is an essential part of Amanda’s class.  An intense stretching helps the students to extend their own moviment and to use all the space. A diagonal exercise mixes the principal technique steps( turns, jumps ecc) with free movement and introduces the students to steps and concepts they will find in the final combo.  All types of music can be used for the choregraphy in order to increase the student’s versability.
