MEGAN DILLON • BALLET
Megan, originally from Syracuse, NY, began dancing at the age of three with Cathy Mucci at Dance Centre North where she trained until moving to New Jersey, in 2004. In NJ, she continued her dance training at the Academy of Dance Arts in Red Bank, with Jennifer James Church and Shayne and Nick Mishoe. In 2010, she was accepted into Miami City Ballet School's Pre-Professional Division, where she trained for a year before moving to Philadelphia, PA, to train under the direction of Bojan and Stephanie Spassoff at The Rock School for Dance Education. At the age of 18, Megan began dancing professionally with Charlotte Ballet. She later joined Ballet Met Columbus and Colorado Ballet. Megan has been very lucky to be given opportunities to dance works by renowned choreographers like George Balanchine, Dwight Rhoden, Alonzo King, and Septime Webre among many others. Megan always felt inclined to pass on what she’s learned in her training and career thus far and was excited to be given an opportunity to teach in 2014, at her first ballet school in Syracuse, NY. Since then she’s taught at many schools in NY, NJ, and NC, most recently at Cary Ballet Conservatory and Ninth Street Dance in the Raleigh/Durham, NC area. Megan recently moved to the New York City area to further her career in the performing arts and to pass on her passion and knowledge for dance to those who want to learn.
Megan uses a healthy approach to teaching the basic principles of ballet. This beginner ballet class focuses on gaining flexibility while building strength, practicing balance with the proper body placement, and learning technique while exploring your own personal artistry. By the end of class, she wants her students to leave all the technique they've learned to muscle memory and focus on expressing themselves. While dancing, Megan believe's it is important to forget about the stresses of the day and instead remember why you decided to come to class in the first place.
