Thomas 'Tommy' Sweeney • HOUSE
Tommy was born in Ireland and raised in NYC, beginning his dance journey in 2010 while at University in NY. Having tried many mediums of expression prior, nothing struck him quite like connecting movement to music. Discovering hip hop culture through a passion for graffiti in his teenage years, Tommy soon began learning to break . And in turn, was exposed to house dance and underground house & club culture. At 21 travelling through the club circuit in NYC became not only a playground, but also a weekly mission. Beginning his training with Ejoe Wilson & James ‘Cricket’ Colter, Tommy learned from the pioneers of the dance. The elements of house dance as a social and communicative language were pivotal in his development. Learning through sharing and exchanging became a gateway to unlimited movement. Tommy’s passion only grew deeper as he found the parties that carried the culture, like Shelter & Louie Vega's Roots NYC. Through this passion, Tommy became a professional dancer working with the likes of Boiler Room and Crystal Waters. Travelling to mainland Europe for the first time in 2016, Tommy later went on to teach a workshop tour in France in 2018 as well as Scotland in 2019. Spanning 3 cities across 3 weeks (in both countries), Tommy gave the bridges and connections that lead him to be so deeply rooted in house. The main focus being the emotional connection to music and how we can learn and grow from each other. Also having creative experience with design, photography and music production, Tommy is a well rounded and elemental artist.
