Class begins with a center warm up focusing on the use of the back and torso with use of spiral and contractions, initiated honestly from the use of ones breath. Class progresses with exploration work in guided improvisation exercises in center, traveling throughout the space, working within different levels, planes, and size. Use of different movement dynamics are emphasized. Class then transition's into set choreography driven from Ms. Cook-Beatty's own studies done in improvisational work and developed into phrase work and sweeping spacial patterns. The dancer will learn this developed material and repertoire of Alison Cook Beatty Dance and see the progression from improvisation exploration to choreography. Notebooks for the dancer are recommended and dancers are encouraged to hand write or sketch their thoughts down directly after class. This is a class for the curious artist.
