THEN AND NOW

These series will take us through the different eras in Broadway.

Vernacular Jazz:

Monday 6/30 - 4:00-6:00pm
This class explores the roots of Jazz and Musical Theatre Dance by learning about
dance practices of the early 1900s through 1930s from a cultural and practical point of
view. This includes topics/styles such as: Authentic Jazz, Vernacular Jazz, Charleston,
Lindy Hop, and Swing Dance. This class will establish vocabulary and style from this
era, which will culminate into a choreographed dance combination.

Golden Age:

Monday 7/7 - 4:00-6:00pm
This class explores how Musical Theatre Dance altered its focus more towards Ballet
and Modern dance forms during the 1940s through 1960s. An historical overview of
some of the main choreographers of this era will be discussed including Agnes DeMille,
Jerome Robbins, and Michael Kidd. Choreography from the original version of West
Side Story will be taught.

Post-Golden Age:

Monday 7/14 - 4:00-6:00pm
This class explores how Musical Theatre Dance continued to evolve from the 1970s
through early 2000s. An historical overview of some of the main choreographers of this
era will be discussed including Bob Fosse, Michael Bennett, and Susan Stroman.
Choreography from the original version of A Chorus Line will be taught.
