History and Culture
Of paramount importance, students will learn the proper history and culture of the dance forms. Through this, students will learn how to represent themselves appropriately - both on and off stage. Students will learn how to look forward through the lessons of the past. This is crucial for all movement creators and for the long term health of the culture (and the dance).
Pedagogy/Teaching
Under the guidance of college professor Pavan 'PMT' Thimmaiah and a full staff dance educators, trainees will be provided training on
-
Building their pedagogy
-
Understanding the marketplace and how to apply your teaching goals accordingly
-
Building a curriculum
-
Communication skills necessary for teaching
Trainees will be given opportunities to assist or offer their own community classes to further train. Acceptance into this part of the program is contingent on student aptitude, interest and availability. Additional time may be required to further training in this regard.
Freestyle
This program offers a focus on freestyle dance - the original and most natural form of Street/Club Styles. This will empower performers so they can perform as authentic practitioners and creators - opening opportunities stemming from having agency over their own unique talents. Additional training may be asked to further a student's goals.
Performance Projects
Trainees will be able to enjoy unique opportunities to apply their growing knowledge and talent. This Summer, we offer a chance to perform at the Barclays Center as part of the halftime show for the NY Liberty on August 19th!
